Hearing

Did you know?

There are 17,000 hair cells (nerves, so named because of the little hairs at the tips) in the cochlea; they alert the brain to vibrations.

You may soon be able to take a morning-after pill for noise trauma.  Trials are now under way.

Animal research has given hopes that damaged nerves may one day be regrown to reverse hearing loss.

To enrich your sense of  Hearing

Take frequent “listening walks” to focus on sounds you often ignore, from the dcall of the blue jay o the gurgle of a fountain.

Because loud noises can damage the delicate cochlea cells, the most common cause of hearing loss,” gives your ears 16 to 18 hours of rest between blaring exposures.”  If you go to a great concert on Friday night, don’t ride a loud motorcycle until Sunday.

Wake up your ears.  With thumb and index finger, take hold of the top of each ear, and pull across until you unfold the crease.  Inch your fingers down and keep repeating, until you reach the bottom.
